      The methodology behind Google Cloud Carbon Footprint, reviewed by 3Degrees_Inc, represents a new and unique bottom-up approach: it uses machine-level energy consumption coupled with hourly greenhouse gas emission factors from @electricityMap.           Billing data is often hard to share, to enable more within an organization to access carbon data, Google Cloud Carbon Footprint now only requires the "getCarbonInformation" IAM permission, which can be granted with the "Carbon Footprint Viewer" IAM role: cloud.google.com/carbon-footprint/docs/iam

            Google Cloud Carbon Footprint now breaks down carbon emissions by scope: 1⃣: Fossil fuel emissions, 2⃣: Emissions from electricity production, 3⃣: Upstream lifecycle emissions from datacenter hardware or building and employee travels. cloud.google.com/carbon-footprint/docs/methodology#boundaries
