  3. How much is 4% of 75? Hard to tell, right? Well, it's the same as 75% of 4, which is trivial and is 3. I guess it was never too late for me to realize that 4% * 75 = 4 * 0.01 * 75 = 4 * 75 * 0.01 = 4 * 75%
  4. I'm now convinced that the most impactful product advice I should give is simply: use your own product.
  5. Google Cloud has created its official set of buildpacks to help customers containerize apps in popular languages. They already are used in production on App Engine and Cloud Functions, and supported by many other products. cloud.google.com/blog/products/containers-kubernetes/google-cloud-now-supports-buildpacks

❄️🔥 Goodbye cold starts: You can now specify a minimum number of container instances to be kept warm and ready to serve requests. When they are not serving requests, CPU is 10x cheaper than normal. cloud.google.com/run/docs/configuring/min-instance

🛑 Cloud Run now sends a SIGTERM signal before a container instance is shut down. If handled, CPU is allocated for 10s max This allows for graceful instance termination, giving your code some time to close any database connection or send some last telemetry data.

  9. Tired of screenshots that appear blurry on high density displays? introducing SVG screenshots. I wrote and deployed a small web service to Cloud Run that saves the given URL to an SVG image: html-to-svg.as-a-service.dev/?url=https://steren.fr Code at github.com/as-a-service/html-to-svg

  18. Today I turned down an Java app deployed to App Engine 10 years ago (labs.steren.fr/2011/09/20/square-of-the-dead/) I never updated it. It was still running and processing data like on day 1. Kudos to the App Engine team. I know it went through a ton of internal migrations. 10 years is a long time.

  19. Without an J-1 Visa at creativecommons in 2008, I would not have been inspired to work in tech. Without an L-1 Visa at Google in 2017, I would not have been able to deliver Cloud Run and generate revenue. I'm an immigrant and I like to think I "bring value".
